Kentucky residents can show support for the state's 18 independent colleges and universities by purchasing a license plate celebrating their favorite school. $10 of the initial and renewal registration goes directly to the general scholarship fund of the particular college.

AIKCU's partnership with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has raised nearly $1 million in scholarships since the first independent college license plates hit the roads in 2002.

"Battle of the Bumpers" Competition

Each year AIKCU holds the "Battle of the Bumpers," a friendly competition among its member campuses to see which can generate the most money for student scholarships. Transylvania University held the top spot from 2008-2017, before getting edged out by Centre College in 2018. Bellarmine University took the title in 2019 and has had it locked down ever since.
